A couple of random things that were mentioned:

WMass networking group was also present, leading to talk of determining someone's occupation by the number of links on facebook. Then to one company's use of Facebook liked with their bug tracking system?!

There was some talk about website optimization from the point of drawing people in. An example was given that a product went from 20 to 30 demos downloaded a day by making small tweaks to different parts of the site. This made me think of Google Analytics which is geared exactly towards doing analysis of these sorts of tweaks. http://jottit.com/ was also mentioned as a (very rudimentary) example of getting the user to start working with your site FIRST, to draw them in, then when they have something that might be worth saving you can ask them to create an account.

There was also some talk about using Leopard's Time Machine for backups. Automated backups are definitely the best otherwise they don't get done. I also like Mozy, which does online backups automatically on Windows of the Mac.

Web scraping is useful, but it's also be at least a little discreet when doing it - Don't hammer on a server with a UA of "Joe's SuperSecret scraper".

Hey Chaz-
Thanks for putting this up- I have been having a schedule conflict on Thursday nights, so have not been able to make many meeting lately. At least with the notes you all are taking and posting I can at least keep abreast of the meeting happenings.

Hope all is well.
